Daily Prayer Guide – Saturday, Dec 5

ISAIAH 2:1-5

Tired of waiting on God, unsure if He’d really come through for them, God’s people decided to do whatever they thought necessary to get what they needed – and wanted – for themselves. Then they blamed God when things didn’t work out as they’d hoped. So God gave visions to Isaiah, sending him to invite the people of God to look again at who God is and what He wanted to do for them. God wanted to show His rebellious people the future that awaits those who see – and those who refuse to see.

Ask God to give you eyes to see.

Read Isaiah 2:1-5

This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

In the last days

the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established

as chief among the mountains;

it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.

Many peoples will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob.

He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”

The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.

They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.

Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

What did Isaiah see?

Take a piece of paper and a pencil: Draw a sketch of the image(s) that come to your mind as you see what Isaiah describes in words. (This is not an art project! It’s a reflection tool. Don’t stress about the picture. Prayerfully ponder the point.)

What does the prophet Isaiah call God’s people to do in response to this vision of “the last days”?

Pray in response to what you’ve seen.

Pray that God’s people in Madison would “walk in the light of the LORD” as we see God again this Advent season.

Pray that all nations will turn to God and desire to learn His ways.
