On Christimas Eve there was a question on the screen: What song does a caroller sing outside of Scrooge’s office?
At first I took this to be a riddle, with an unexpected answer. To that, I submit:
“We wish you a Marley Christmas” – a pun on the name of the company and Merry Christmas.
“You’re a Mean Man, Mister Grinch” – fitting, but unexpected because Dr. Suess was not around in Victorian England.
Then I wondered if it was a trivia question, about a particular movie version. The book and the play do not specify what carol is sung, but a good choice for the beginning of the movie would be
“God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”
because it fits the Victorian time of the play and hints
about rest, which Ebenezer will not get this night.
“Good King Wenceslas” was the song sung outside of Scrooge’s office.
